Women’s Health

Fertility

At View to Health, we help to optimise your fertility.
We first make an assessment of the nutritional and hormonal status of both partners. A preconception program is designed to provide the optimal conditions for conception. This includes the correct diet, supplements and fertility herbs for each partner. Hormonal and genetic testing is also available. Where IVF is a consideration, we advise on hormonal and genetic tests and provide naturopathic support leading up to and during egg collection, transfer and the ensuing pregnancy. We aim to reduce the risk of miscarriage and help you achieve a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby.

Premenstrual Syndrome

If you are experiencing mood swings, anxiety, irritability or depression and bloating and breast tenderness for a few days before the period, at View to Health we have a naturopathic solution to the PMS blues. This prevalent syndrome is a consequence of a disproportionate increase in oestrogen levels and a derangement of other hormone, neurotransmitter and prostaglandin function. The result can be quite debilitating.
By normalising the hormonal balance with a naturopathic and dietary treatment, these symptoms can be overcome and you can feel normal again.

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)

PCOS is characterised by increased androgen levels with disruption of the ovulatory cycle. The hyper-secretion of leutinising hormone and inadequate secretion of follicle stimulating hormone, with inadequate follicle development, can result in menstrual abnormalities, acne, abnormal hair growth and miscarriage. PCOS is associated with insulin resistance and the increased incidence of obesity. Ultrasound and hormone testing will determine the severity of the PCOS.
At View to Health, our naturopath will formulate a treatment to help restore the hormone balance and to improve insulin resistance. This will alleviate symptoms and, at the same time, help you to lose weight. The result will improve your fertility.

Ulcerative Colitis

Ulcerative colitis is a chronic form of inflammatory bowel disease that causes inflammation and ulcers in the colon.
It is characterised by intermittent flares, and is usually treated with anti-inflammatory drugs (steroids) and immune-suppressive drugs (sulfazalazine) which have side-effects.
Steroid treatment can lead to weight gain, acne, mood changes, diabetes stomach ulcers, Cushing-s syndrome and delayed wound healing.
Sulfazalazine can cause stomach upset and pain, headache, decreased appetite, nausea, vomiting, itching, rash, joint pain and fever.
In ulcerative colitis, digestion and absorption are not usually affected but there is impairment of water absorption causing diarrhoea.

Crohn’s Disease

Unlike ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease affects the whole of the gastro-intestinal tract. An inflamed ileum reduces the absorption of vitamin B12 and bile salts (which emulsify fat).
Inflammation along the small intestine affects absorption of all nutrients. Inflammation of the colon impairs water absorption causing diarrhoea.
People with Crohn’s disease are more likely to develop fistulas.
Treatment for ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease at View to Health include a herbal preparations as a liquid, power or tablets to soothe and protect the mucous membrane lining and reduce pain, as well as a specially designed diet.
